On an expansive coastal plot in Curaçao, this villa redefines the essence of luxury through abstraction. The composition is powerful in its simplicity: an ode to pure form, where every unnecessary detail has been carefully removed.
The design responds to the elongated shape of the site through two parallel volumes, slightly shifted in relation to one another. This creates a dynamic interplay between mass, openness and in-between space.
The illusion of enclosure

From the street side, the villa presents itself as an almost impenetrable sculpture. The entrance is carefully concealed behind a double wall, creating an architectural illusion that protects the privacy of the patio and the sleeping volume above.
Only when entering the in-between space does the logistical heart of the home reveal itself: a monumental curved staircase. As a sculptural object, it connects the grounded character of the lower level with the calm and privacy of the upper floor.
Used materials
The material palette reinforces the abstract and refined character of the villa. Natural timber cladding gives the upper volume warmth and depth, while maintaining the purity of its form. Light marble wall panels introduce a subtle sense of luxury without disturbing the calm architectural expression.
Light grey render defines the roof edges and strengthens the horizontal lines of the design. Concrete flooring creates a robust and continuous foundation throughout the living spaces. Together, these materials form a balanced dialogue between warmth, solidity and understated elegance.

The floating volume
Resting above the two horizontal base volumes is an abstract timber block: the sleeping wing. This volume celebrates the purity of form and appears to almost float above the ground floor.
While the exterior remains closed to protect against tropical heat and outside views, the interior opens with full-height glass towards a private patio. It becomes a place of stillness, where the breeze moves freely and daylight softly filters inside.
‘’A symphony of shifted volumes: where minimalist purity meets the infinite Caribbean horizon.’’
GEERT VERSCHUREN | ARCHITECT STATE
An endless horizon

At the rear, the villa releases its introverted character and opens completely towards the Caribbean Sea. Here, the boundary between inside and outside fades almost entirely.
The living spaces flow seamlessly into a generous outdoor area, complete with a sunken lounge, an advanced outdoor kitchen and a covered terrace designed to fully embrace the island climate. A thirty-metre swimming pool completes the architectural statement, stretching like a sharply cut line towards the horizon. Grounded by the rear volume, the water creates a direct visual connection with the sea.
