Renovation

The name Vanta is derived from Vantablack, one of the darkest materials in the world, known for absorbing almost all light. In this project in Wessem, it becomes a symbol for the architectural ambition: the pursuit of the highest possible standard, the absolute edge of perfection.

This renovation is not a cautious adjustment, but a powerful statement. A new, uncompromising standard for minimalist design is introduced, where contrast, precision and material depth define the architectural language.

Floating roof illusion

A refined architectural detail

The most refined detail of the renovation can be found in the roof edge. To integrate the necessary insulation package in an elegant way, a double roof edge was introduced with a subtle optical illusion.

A recessed section is finished with mirrored glass, making the aluminium detailing underneath visually detach from the mass of the building. This creates the impression of extremely thin, floating roof planes, while allowing the villa to meet high sustainability standards.

Used materials

A balanced contrast of material and light

The material palette was chosen to ground the strong lines of the design while softening the overall composition. Natural stone tiles create a calm and solid base, giving the lower volumes a refined and timeless character.

The higher split-level volume is clad in vertical timber, adding warmth, rhythm and a natural expression. Subtle LED lines are integrated into the architecture, reinforcing the clean geometry in the evening and giving the layered composition additional depth.

Architectural landscape

The garden as an extension of the home

At the rear, the layered character of the project becomes fully visible. The house and garden are designed as one continuous architectural landscape, where terraces on different levels mirror the functions of the interior.

Directly connected to the kitchen is the dining terrace, while one level lower the lounge finds a more sheltered position. The lowest level is dedicated to wellness and fitness, complete with an outdoor shower and an integrated planter within a continuous wall for optimal privacy.

‘’Horizontal layering as the backbone of a modernist metamorphosis.’’

Bedroom
Pure sightlines and open living

The master bedroom on the highest level offers the widest view over the garden. From the adjoining terrace, finished with a minimal glass balustrade to preserve the sightlines, a steel staircase leads down to the fitness terrace.

These direct connections between the different levels strengthen the dynamic character of the home. The result is an open and airy architecture that invites the residents to constantly reconnect with the surrounding landscape.

Vertical blinds

The vertical aluminium blinds are movable, allowing the residents to regulate natural daylight and privacy.

Integrated carport

The double roof extends in the carport, embracing it in the design and making the villa one resounding statement.
