Vanta
extension

The name Vanta is derived from Vantablack, one of the darkest materials in the world, known for absorbing almost all light. In this project in Wessem, it becomes a symbol for the architectural ambition: the pursuit of the highest possible standard, the absolute edge of perfection.

This renovation is not a cautious adjustment, but a powerful statement. A new, uncompromising standard for minimalist design is introduced, where contrast, precision and material depth define the architectural language.

Dialogue between eras

A sharp architectural gesture

The essence of the design lies in a clear and tangible contrast. The original building retains its historical character through traditional whitewashed brickwork, while a new volume intersects it at a right angle.

This orthogonal intervention creates a strong field of tension. By deliberately working with extremes, the bright white of the existing structure and the deep darkness of the new volume, an architectural symbiosis emerges in which old and new intensify one another.

Used materials

Darkness with character

The new volume draws attention through a bold and precise material expression. Black render is combined with the tactile, raw texture of charred timber, creating a dark and monolithic appearance.

This material palette forms a powerful counterpoint to the white existing structure. At the same time, it gives the extension a sense of depth, weight and refinement, strengthening the uncompromising minimalist character of the design.

Off-axis geometry

Following the boundary

The extension continues into an exclusive outbuilding with wellness and lounge spaces. Here, the design takes an unexpected and dynamic turn: the volume is rotated off-axis to follow the natural boundary of the plot.

This subtle yet sharp shift breaks away from predictability and creates a rigorous play of lines. The angled geometry resonates throughout the interior and exterior, turning the boundary of the site into a defining architectural gesture.

‘’Water, light and charred timber merge in a bold minimalist concept.’’

Light and water

Defining the atmosphere

The pure form and razor-sharp detailing are not only expressed during the day. Integrated LED lines follow the contours of the architecture, allowing the lines and angles to light up after sunset. The lighting is not an addition, but an integral part of the design.

Water becomes the connecting element in the outdoor space. A sleek reflecting pond creates a visual axis and flows optically into the head of the swimming pool. With a shallow plage and two generous lounge terraces, the garden transforms into a serene summer oasis, softening the sharp architecture and bringing calm to the bold composition.

Vertical blinds

The vertical aluminium blinds are movable, allowing the residents to regulate natural daylight and privacy.

Integrated carport

The double roof extends in the carport, embracing it in the design and making the villa one resounding statement.
